Tis the season, Part III
As a final installment to my series on halloween Im recapping my favorite halloween specials and scary movies!
TV
1. It’s The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown - This shit is just classic. Let’s face it for pretty much for every holiday there’s a Peanuts special and the best part about that is that there all pretty solid. This one in particularly is a gem. The story is just too classic Linus waiting in a pumpkin patch all night long, charlie brown unsuccessful at everything including trick or treating and finally of course the red baron! And if you don’t like charlie brown you might not have a soul….Get on that.
2. The Simpson’s Treehouse of Horror V- It’s really hard to decide which is my favorite treehouse of horror episode. There’s just so many good ones especially in the older seasons. I was rather torn between this one and IV. This one stands above the rest in my opinion though. In this installment we have the simpson’s take on the classic the shining. Followed by the one where homer time travels endlessly and finally ending with the kids getting eaten by the teachers. This one is just perfect especially when the family turns inside out at the end due to a poisionous gas that seeps through the cheap weatherstripping.
3. South park -Spooky Fish- South park has always been great for a good halloween laugh. The first season featured one of the best halloween episodes I’ve ever seen but i thought the following season was just beyond funny. The main reason is that the episode is presented in spooky vision in which Barbara Streisand’s face adorns the corner of the screen! Trust me it’s rather frightening! The episode itself is about evil pets and the death and disappearance of Aunt “Flo”
Movies
1. The Shining- Ok so I don’t know who is scarier in this Jack Nicholson or Shelley Duvall? I mean he looks scary but Shelley Duvall practically looks like the skeleton of Olive Oil you know Pop-eye’s girlfriend who she coincidentally played in the movie version of Pop-eye. Hands down this is my all time favorite scary movie. I still get goosebumps while watching it and I could not sleep after I first viewed it way long ago. The bf and I got this on blu-ray last year and it was like seeing it for the first time all over again. Nothing like blood flowing out an elevator in 1080p.
2. The Exorcist- Once again another classic horror story. I saw this shit in the theaters when they rereleased and it scared the crap out of me. As it did my father several decades ago when it first came out. Actually my father read the book first and it scared him so bad he woke up in the middle of the night from a nightmare and hurled the book out the window proclaiming “Get back you devil”. The next morning he went outside and picked up the book and eventually finished it. Oh yea the film is well acted and who doesn’t love green split pea vomit!
3. Dead Alive- Not so much a horror as much as it just a fun zombie movie. This is definitely Peter Jackson’s stand out film, yea you heard me fuck lord of the rings! This movie is chock full of gratuitous blood and gore and you even get to see 50 zombies killed with just a lawn mower!
